The bird watched as the branch knocked the smaller hunter backward, thwarting the larger hunter's attempt to hit him. The man seemed to lie still, and the larger bear, satisfied with his victory, decided to walk away.

Strange happenings, the bird thought shortly. He heard the familiar scratching of an insect's legs moving nearby, and, turning, saw another of his favorite insects. He grabbed this one, and decided it would be best to eat this one at the nest.

He flew off, the branch, the bear, and the man already far from his thoughts. Winter was coming soon, and he needed to conserve his strength for the journey. It certainly was a beautiful morning, and the days would soon be getting shorter.
