A Bear Attacks!/The Bear Part 1
From WritAnonWiki
The bear roamed its chosen territory. He had fought off many invaders since he'd declared this area his many seasons ago. He knew winter was coming soon...it was time to start eating more in preparation for his long winter nap.
He spent his morning catching trout in the stream that ran through his territory. There wasn't much that could beat a nice trout in the morning. He'd fought hard to keep this land for himself, and often enjoyed the pleasures the land had to offer.
He remembered the old bear that used to roam the land that was now his. Though old, the bear had still been powerful, and showed him many tricks to survival. One day, they'd stumbled upon a treasure trove of sweet apples, fat, and other delicious treats. Both he and the old bear came back each day for several days. Both had thought they had found paradise.
After several days had passed, the two bears came up on the trove, the younger bear had smelt something a bit different, and hung back. The older bear, his senses perhaps a bit dulled by age, or simply focused on the pile of treats, moved on in. Not long after, the younger bear heard a shot, followed by the dull crash of the older bear's body falling to the ground. He watched as a man climbed out of a nearby tree and approached the older bear. It was then that the younger bear knew his friend was dead.
Out of fear of someone so mighty as to bring his friend down so quickly, the younger bear had run. However, he'd never forgotten.
Crunching footsteps brought the bear out of his thoughts. Looking up, a man came around the bend. Their eyes locked.
Above, a bird trilled, but, as the bear's eyes filled with rage, he barely heard the bird's call.
